I'm also really pleased that after the success we had last year with students in a limited number of classes there are now more tutors who are keen to take this on board this year which is great news.We aim to make this year's challenge even more successful by introducing lots more of our students to start reading for pleasure.

Although the numbers are small (12), they are a very enthusiastic group who interact together well and are looking forward to future events. Our next event is February 12th and we hope it goes as well as the launch.

Hello from mid Wales! I am the Regional Development Officer for a library project in Wales, Libraries for Life. Part of this project was to set up a regional partnership between the counties of Ceredigion and Powys in mid Wales. The partnership, called Cadwyn Y Canolbarth, consists of 2 HE, 2 Public, 2 Health and 1 FE library services. One of the projects we wanted to focus on was reader development, and lucky for us the Six Book Challenge came along.

We have run the challenge for two years now across Coleg Powys (FE) and Coleg Ceredigion / Aberystwyth University (they share a library). The challenge has been very successful in engaging readers and took off very well. Furthermore, when we ran the challenge last year we had 10 more participants and 10 more completers than the previous year. So we are very much looking forward to this year.

The first year we ran the challenge we focused mainly on ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students at the college, but still kept the challenge open to anyone who wanted to join in. The ESOL students loved it and joined in again the year after. We even ran a small competition linked to the challenge whereby the students could write a very short review of one of the books they read for a chance to win a £10 book token. Vera Brabencova was our winner and you can read her story here.
